It's the End of the World

Is it the end of the world as we know it?

I remember hearing about December 21st, 2012 and the end of the world when I was little. What if it really happens? Would I be ready? Would I have lived my life in a way that, looking back, I would be happy, knowing I lived my best?

If you knew you only had a couple days left, what would you do, say, change, work towards, etc.? Would you forgive more easily or go to the grave holding a grudge? I know this is a little cliche of a post, but, I still think it's important to remember - even the cliche things.

  1. It's interesting to think about. I know I wish I were happier than I am. I allow myself to get sooo caught up in the worries of the day that I'm not that happy. But in a lot of things, I feel okay about myself. I know that, if I were to meet God tomorrow, I have a lot on both sides of the scale, both good stuff that I do and the bad stuff, too. But I also know where my heart is, and what I'm trying to do with my life. Seeing the blessings and miracles in my life has allowed me to know that God loves me and wants me around, so I have to hope that He and I agree on where I spend my eternities.

  2. Your posts, as ever, provoke deep thought and inspiration :)

I have long found it an irony that Utah often rates top of the list when it comes to things like depression, over-the-counter drugs, sex crimes, etc. Obviously this is no fault of the Book of Mormon or the Priesthood...but what does it mean? It seems to me that the results of living a life in harmony with God should bring a sense of inner peace, joy, and fulfillment. Not that our lives would necessarily be easy or look ideal on the outside, but I feel that we wouldn't be a people with so much misery and turmoil on the inside.

I don't have all of the answers, but I would propose that the scriptures do, if we can only come to understand them. God certainly has the answers, and the Spirit seems to be pretty good at revealing the "truth of all things." I dunno...I think it would be good for anyone seeking peace, joy, and fulfillment to question anything in his/her life that doesn't seem to be working. Especially if the "end of the world" might be just around the corner lol. And hey, who can ever be sure of the moment one will leave this world?

  4. Spud, Thanks for your comments. I got my degree in psychology, and that stuff is interesting. You could talk to Dr. Yamawaki, she has studied that a lot, and can give a deeper perspective to add to the news articles, we talked about it a ton in her classes, but this blog post wasn't really about that... :) https://psychology.byu.edu/Pages/Faculty%20and%20Staff/Bios/NiwakoYamawaki.aspx
